Call Sheet: The Underminer Film

So, we totally love Mike Albo and his chortle-inducing book The Underminer, which is why we were geeked to find he made a short film with the character for Logo, which we've handily embedded for your viewing pleasure. The best part, it's two Albos for the price of one (it's like a cunty, New York version of The Parent Trap or something). Is it wrong that we want to be in the middle of an Albo sandwich?

Wiretap: Muffin Top

We've probably mentioned we don't watch a lot of TV, it cuts into our drinking time, but we've been catching up on NBC's 30 Rock and well, we like it. It's not a great show by any means, but occasionally Fey and co. hit on something so sublime or sublimely stupid it makes us tinkle in our pants a little. Case in point: the song "Muffin Top." Jane Krakowski's dumb blond actress cliche has released it as a single, which is the "number 1 hit in Israel and number 5 in Berlin!" It's an almost dead-on Britney impersonation (pre-head shave/rehab/career freefall) and we likey.

For the uninitiated, a muffin top, as defined by Urban Dictionary, is "
when a woman wears a pair of tight jeans that makes her flab spill out over the waistband, just like the top of a muffin sits over the edge of the paper case."

It's so good it makes us wonder if Andy Samberg wrote it.

And because we're wired wrong, this song kinda sorta reminds us of Mike Albo's brilliant spoof single "Pink Pudding" just a tiny bit.

Below we've reprinted the lyrics, should you want to add "Muffin Top" to your repertoire.

Everyone knows
that the most delicious part of the muffin
is the top...
My muffin top is all that
Whole grain, low fat
I know you wanna piece of that
But I just wanna dance
You're checkin' out my sweet hips
My sugar coated berry lips
I know you wanna get with this
But I'm just here to dance
So back up off of me
You're weirding me out
I'm an independent lady (oh!)
So do not try to play me (oh!)
I run a tidy bakery (oh!)
All the boys (oh!) want (oh!) my (oh!) cake (oh!) for free (oh!)

*69: Mike Albo

We've said it before and we'll say it again: we love Mike Albo. His monologues skewer pop culture with the authority of someone who buys Star, Life & Style and In Touch and reads them with equal parts disdain and envy.

Here Albo plays Tony Testa, the fey assistant to Jennifer Lopez, or "Ms. Lo" as he refers to her.

*69: Mike Albo

Performance artist/monologist/certifiable freak Mike Albo does his "Amanda" routine -- A celebutard-inspired riff on the excesses of pop culture. It will make you pee your pants with laughter*. May be NSFW.

The Directory: A Few of Our Favorites

OperatorNYC's been thinking about the Scissor Sisters since their sold-out gig last night. As they're a favorite band here at The Operator, we decided it would be a good time to revisit some of our other favorites, the entertainers and innovators that are always on speed dial -- never far from our thoughts.

Ann Magnuson -- A virtual den mother of the performance art scene, Ms. Magnuson has conquered all media without losing her unique voice. From her downtown New York days to her work in television and movies and her music career, she's remained an inspiration.

Kiki and Herb -- The awe inspiring, sheer fucking genius of this punk cabaret duo will rip you apart. "People die, ladies and gentlemen, that's all you need to know." Long live Kiki and Herb. FYI, they're playing two "secret" shows at Joe's Pub on May 2nd and 3rd. Call for tickets.

Mike Albo -- Writer/monologist/yoga enthusiast. His book The Underminer hit so close to home it was eery. You can see him naked if you buy the latest issue of Butt Magazine.

Jonathan Ames -- Never afraid to fly his tranny-chasing, sexually dysfunctional, balding, neurotic freak flag for our amusement. And he looks dapper in seersucker.

Laura Linney -- We've loved her since her embodiment of Mary Anne singleton in Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City. Her honest work in The Squid and the Whale only made us love her more.

Michael Cunningham -- We heard a (unconfirmed) story about his tenure at the Iowa Writers' Workshop. He was told his novel The Hours was shite and that he'd never be a novelist. Jokes on them. Cunnigham continues to crystallize the human experience in new and insightful ways; the beauty of his words is unparalleled. You've made us weep openly, which is really embarrassing when you're riding the subway.

Amy Sedaris -- Sister of David, a true chamelon and freak. We eagerly await the big screen adaptation of cult hit Strangers with Candy -- all of us boozers, users and losers.

David Cross -- standing up and telling it like it is. Accept no imitations.

These are just a few of the many, many talented people who've inspired us here at The Operator. We'll feature more in the months to come.
