The Ring-A-Ding: Gay Bashed, Trannies Trashed, Marriage Rights Passed
(New York City) Singer Kevin Aviance was attacked outside of a popular gay club in the East Village this weekend. Aviance, who performs as a woman, was dressed as a man at the time of the attack. He believes that there were as many as seven attackers but police reports put the number at four. Despite his injuries, Aviance says he will still perform at NYC Pride. [via 365 gay]
(Rome, Italy) The Vatican, in keeping with their reputation for inclusion, has said that medical priority should not be given to transexuals needing their hormone treatments. [via planetout]
(Massachusetts) A transgender convicted murderer broke down in court Thursday as she testified in her lawsuit against the state of Massachusetts for not paying for her sex-reassignment surgery. The Massachusetts department of corrections will not accept that the convict is female, so she is incarcerated in the all-male medium-security prison in Norfolk. [via The Advocate]
(New York) Westchester County in New York will recognize same-sex marriages performed in states and countries that allow them under an executive order signed on Wednesday night by county executive Andrew Spano. [via The Advocate]
