Recall: The Operator Year in Review

As another year draws to a close, another auld lang syne as 'twere, we thought we'd revisit, in no particular order, some of our favorite posts from '06. So, pour yourself a glass of bubbly and get a little nostalgic as you click through the madness. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wonder why you've been reading this blog for so long.

We explored the danger of trickle down fashion trends, said adios to trans fats, and didn't get any closer to finding out why the caged bird sings. Our gay genes lusted after James McAvoy, Anderson Cooper, Bruno Schuind, and Michael Schwandt (among many, many others, le sigh).

While Fergie dominated the charts with her inspirational lyrics and divine talent, we took it upon ourselves to wonder whither Wild Orchid? We rocked out to Joan as Police Woman, the Scissor Sisters, Leslie and the Ly's, and Gregory Douglass, and we applauded the creation of a GLBT music label.

We doled out our expert advice to homophobes, closet cases, and the lesbianese, as well as offering tips on participating in a masturbate-a-thon.

We explored our artsy side with our new feature Spam Poetry and clawed our way to the C-list. We caught up with club kid-cum-killer Michael "doody pants" Alig, and gave a virtual rimjob to the performers who inspire us, like Jackie Beat, Mike Albo, Amy Sedaris, and of course, Kiki & Herb.

Naturally, we blogged about perennial favorites like monkeys, booze, bacon, bacon and booze, and hobos. Oh, and the apocalypse.

Since we want to leave on a high, we won't dwell on all the insipid things we disliked in '06. We will offer one example, though: NJ Guido. 'Nuff said.

That, dear reader(s), concludes our wholly biased tour of a year with The Operator. Guess all that hard work is why we were named Time's Person of the Year. It's a good thing we can multitask (i.e., drink and blog at the same time) or we wouldn't have gotten anything done.

If we believed in making New Year's resolutions, we'd resolve to to make our blogging in '07 bigger, better, funnier and more flagrant (and with less typos and grammatical errors). Since we don't, it's going to be the same drunken kerfuffle, a catch as catch can affair. In the immortal words of the Beverly Hillbillies, "Y'all come back now, y'hear ?"

HOTline: Fergilicious!

Finally! We assumed that Fergie Ferg just couldn't take a good picture. No, not assumed. We BELIEVED the bitch was destined to look like a two bit tranny for the rest of her career. But she has shown us, hasn't she?

All we could say when we caught these pictures from Paper magazine was "Thank God for stylists and photographers" because they did some magic for this shoot.

operatorLA is also confused because he is really diggin on Fergie's new music too. What has the world come to?

See more Fergilicousness after the jump.

Wiretap: Thou Shalt Not Mock 'My Humps'

Woe be he who disses the song stylings of "The Dutchess." According to Fergie:

"I may not have the type of voice you like, but I can sing. You can't take that away from me, 'cause singing is a gift from God, and when people say I can't sing, it's kind of like insulting God." - Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson

Fergie may have gotten her voice from God, but she certainly didn't divine any lyrical prowess from the King James Bible, lest we missed the passage "All my girls get down on the floor/Back to back, drop it down real low./I’m such a lady, but I’m dancing like a ho/‘Cause you know I don’t give a fuck, so here we go! " in Psalms.

Photocall: Trannie Scouts

How progressive of the Girl Scouts to let that scary looking trannie into their fold. Maybe they're working on their gender equality merit badge. Oh, that's Fergie? Never mind. We apologize for the confusion.

Wiretap: Whither Wild Orchid?

Current Rolling Stone cover girl Fergie, or The Douche ass Dutchess, as she's dubbed herself, seems to be reaching her zenith. She's just released her solo album, gained universal renown with the Black Eyed Peas, oh, and kicked that nasty meth habit.

But what about her former band mates in the girl group Wild Orchid, Stefanie Ridel and fellow Kids Incorporated alum Renee Sands? Coming of age in the eighties, we totally remember watching Kids Incorporated excessively (we'll save our search for Martika, another Kids Inc. graduate, for another day).

The Orchid's janky website is a no go, while the "official fan site" is totally Fergie-centric. Renee's personal site is stuck in 2004. It seems that the girls tried to make a go of it sans Fergie, but without the drug-addled third leg of their triangle, the menage a pop that was Wild Orchid wilted.

Renee's been able to make the payments on her Honda Civic doing session work, and Stefanie is providing vocals for a House/Techno duo 5th Element. Hardly seems fair. Back in the Kids Inc. days, we totally thought Renee was the one with talent, Fergie (nee Stacy Ann Ferguson) was just the annoying little sister, the Jan Brady of the bunch. But for every Justin Timberlake, there's a Chris Kirkpatrick. For every Ricky Martin, there's thousands of slightly haggard hustlers on Santa Monica. You get the point. One can never be sure who the fickle pop gods will anoint.

For now, the Dutchess reigns. We've seen London, we've seen France, we've seen Fergie Piss her pants. She's extolled the virtues of her lovely lady lumps, and mystified us with lyrics like "How come everytime you come around/My London, London bridge, wanna go down "( Is she talking about her panties? A blowjob? Bad dental work she received in England?). It seems the musical landscape shant be free of Fergie for the foreseeable future.

Here's hoping the other girls will at least merit a cameo on your Behind the Music, Fergie. Or a Wild Orchid reunion at some point. It's an act of grace befitting a Dutchess.

Wiretap: Fergie

operatorLA has liked Fergie since her young days on Kids Inc. Then he was a fan of her girl group Wild Orchid as well. When she joined The Black Eyed Peas he was elated because he liked them as well. And their musical efforts did not disappoint.

Now Fergie is launching a solo career as a side project. If I am not mistaken that is what Beyonce said too. Perez Hilton gives us a great sneak listen to her first single and it is HOT!!!! operatorLA will be shaking his ass and grinding up against some chocolate men on the dancefloor to this song very soon!

Hear the song here.
