Wiretap: Rufus Goes Over the Rainbow

If the American Taliban is looking to wage war on homosexuals, they might want to start at Carnegie Hall tonight…which is sure to be the gayest place ever as Rufus wainwright begins the first of his two-night tribute to Judy Garland. Drop a bomb on the hallowed hall and the right-wing theocrats are sure to wipe out the majority of the queer population of manhattan. This concert is destined to be gayer than Liza Minelli’s album with the Pet Shop Boys.

The Divo is covering the entirety of La Garland’s legendary concert at the same venue complete with forty piece orchestra. Rufus has been in rehearsal for months, and TONY has been doing a countdown on their website. It’s a ballsy move, though we're pretty sure Wainwright will transcend camp and give the audience a show to remember (as Garland herself did).

Whatever the result, Wainwright has set the high-water mark of gayness years to come. We already love his version of “Over the Rainbow," so we can’t wait to hear him sing The "Trolley Song." Pray they make a live record of the show for posterity.
