911: Bedbugs On the Rise

You may not know that OperatorNYC is a germphobic, pest hating hypochondriac. Now you do, and given the news that bedbug infestations are on the rise, especially here in Gotham, is causing some serious freak outs. This is nothing new, as the Times has featured stories on the bloodsucking insect; but like Jaws, just when we thought it was safe to crawl go back into our Egyptian Cotton sheets, Yahoo! News again amps the bedbug hysteria:

Experts are not entirely sure what has caused the marked increase. Some speculate that increased international travel and immigration may be partially to blame. The tiny bugs may be hitching a ride in the luggage or clothing of travelers. This could explain the high concentration of the pests in cities like Atlanta and New York, which attract a lot of international traffic.

OperatorNYC has seen firsthand the results of bedbug-induced trauma. If you do contract them, burn your mattress, boil your clothing, and move out of your apartment. And for the love of God, don't come near us. That's all we're sayin'. Excuse us, we have to go scratch incessantly now.
