The Ring-A-Ding: MN Candidate Wins, Madonna Stays Neutral, Episcopal Summit Loses

Well, primary day went off without a hitch yesterday and we have some good news and some bad. Good- Minnesota GOP state senator Paul Koering, who came out as gay since his last election, beat back a primary challenge from an antigay opponent. Bad-Rhode Island Republican Stephen Laffey, the mayor of Cranston, lost his Senate bid to moderate Republican incumbent Lincoln Chafee yesterday. Why is that bad you say, especially since some homophobic writings by Laffey came out days before the election? Well, most are in agreement that the Democrats would have had an easier shot at beating Chafee. See how other GLBT candidates did here.

Madonna made her life-long dream to perform in Moscow a reality yesterday as she drew a crowd of 40,000 at her show in the Russian stadium, Luzhniki. Of course, her appearance was met with protests and controversy but at this point I think that is to be expected. What wasn't expected was her thanking the Mayor of Moscow for helping make the event a reality, especially since Moscow and the Mayor are notoriously anti-gay.

We can't blame them for trying. Episcopal bishops at odds over homosexuality ended a private meeting Wednesday saying they had failed to reach agreement over dioceses that reject the authority of the church's incoming national leader, who supports gay relationships. Atleast their religion is having a discourse on the subject unlike Pope Evil and his cronies at the Vatican.
