The Ring-A-Ding: Gay History is Being Celebrated, Foley Should Be Berated, Congress Dismissed With LGBT Issues To Be Debated

Well, African-Americans get the shortest month of the year to celebrate their history and the queers get one of the longest, that just happens to end in the gayest of all gay celebrations-Halloween. Just further proof that Gay is the New Black. The celebration of October as Gay History Month is getting a boost this year from Equality Forum, the international LGBT civil rights organization based in Philadelphia. To impose some structure on the celebration, Equality Forum has selected 31 LGBT leaders, past and present, and created for each a brief video, biography, and bibliography celebrating their achievements.

Republican congressman Mark Foley of Florida resigned Friday, effective immediately, in the wake of questions about e-mails he sent to an underage male former page. We love that at first he tried to call this a Democratic smear campaign. Next we are gonna love the way the media tries to couple Foley's sick (alleged) pedophilic leanings with homosexuality. It has been rumoured for years that Foley might be light in the loafers, and now we are gonna hear how gay men and young boys go hand in hand. That's what is sick.

Congress adjourned on the weekend without taking up a number of LGBT bills including one that would provide partner benefits for partners of federal workers, another that would include gays in hate crime laws, and a third that would have extended the Ryan White AIDS care act. This is no surprise to anyone. In our best Kanye West impersonation: "Republicans don't care about faggots!" The silver lining behind this cloud- when the Democrats take control of the new Congress, they can pass these measures with aplomb.
