Curtain Call: Priscilla, Queen of the Matinee

The Operator is notoriously harsh on the whole movie-turned-musical phenomenon, but this is an idea that has potential: An adaptation of the cult drag queen-road trip movie, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, just premiered in Sydney. According to the imminently knowledgeable blog ModFab, the show was praised by the Sydney Morning Herald and the producers hope to bring it to New York and London.

While the script has all the elements of a great musical --disco, drama, and drag--what can't be replicated onstage is the beautiful Australian outback, which almost felt like another character in the movie. Oh well, guess we'll have to suspend disbelief.
