Party Line: Weekend of Magical Thinking

The weather is predicted to be crappy this weekend, so you may be tempted to curl up at home with a bottle of whiskey and your netflix selections, but in case you feel like venturing out here's what's happening around town.

FRIDAY
Joan Didion (affectionately known as J. Diddy here at the Operator) is doing a reading from her most recent book The Year of Magical Thinking at the CUNY graduate center. Because nothing says Friday night fun like a meditation on death and grief. Also reading, W.S. Merwin.
Or, catch sell-outs/last year's most ubiquitous band the Black Eyed Peas playing Madison Square Garden with the Pussycat Dolls, who up the lovely lady lumps quotient.

SATURDAY
Of course, the Scissor Sisters are playing sold out shows at the Bowery Ballroom Saturday and Sunday, with openers Tiga and Leslie and the Ly's. The sheer ammount of gem sweaters and gold lycra that accompany Leslie will be staggering. If you didn't get tickets, your new BFF on craigslist probably has an extra.

SUNDAY
OperatorNYC will be catching the Scissor Sisters at BB on Sunday. If you still haven't scored tickets, try catching Jesus H. Christ and the Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse at Joe's Pub. We've heard good things about JHC, described by toxicpop as an "an eight-piece rock/pop/punk/folk/metal/cabaret band." They're playing with Tammy Faye Starlite, because if your going to blashpheme, you might as well do it in style.
