The Directory: Vista Theatre

One of the great things about living in the city that built the movie industry is that people out here take movie watching very seriously. There are about as many movie theatres as there are Starbucks in Los Angeles- and that is saying something.

Apart from the quantity of theatres, there is also the quality of them. A recent operatorLA discovery is the Vista Theatre. Located on the outskirts of Silverlake near Sunset Junction, this 75 year old theatre is a great place to watch a film. Deceptively small from the outside, once you pass through the doors, you will be amazed at the size of the place.

Currently it seats close to 400 years ago it could accommodate many more. It seems a few years back the Vista took out every other row of seating to make more leg room, and boy is it worth it! Not only is the extra room nice but the decor is stunning. Although the outside is old Spanish style, the inside has an Egyptian theme. Walls have frescos painted on them and the theatre itself is lush with red velvet curtains and Large busts of a pharaoh set in backlit alcoves.

Hanging from the ceiling are gorgeous, upside-down, pyramid lights. The screen covers the entire wall and the sound quality is great.

The Vista only has one screen but if the movie you want to see is playing, it is well worth the trip, especially if you like a deal. A matinee here costs only $5.00 for adults and evening admission is a bargain at $8.00.
