DisConnected: Downer Howard Dean

operatorLA used to be a huge Howard Dean fan. Dean was the only candidate that he could really get behind in the last election. Not only because he was against the war but also because he seemed to not be afraid to say what he felt. Dean didn't seem to have the need to pander.

Well, those days are long gone!

While speaking to evangelicals, Dean mis-stated the Democratic Party's platform on gay rights and marriage. There are so many things wrong with that sentence, operatorLA does not know where to begin. First of all, why is Dean speaking to Evangelicals? They don't like Democrats and they are not going to like them. We are fundamentally different- and that is OK. Let it go. Secondly, he mis-stated the Platform. This is the Chair of the Democratic National Committee, y'all. If anyone should know the platform it is him! And finally, his statements were contrary to what the Party actually has stated about their stance on gay rights.

Is it really a coincidence that this happened in front of a group of evangelicals? Sounds like pandering to me.

And on a side note- when is the Democratic Party going to wake up and realize we don't need to pander to anyone who is against us? If the party actually defined what they stood for and then worked to implement their beliefs, they could energize a huge portion of their base. Why waste our energies on people who are not going to change their mind? Besides, with ol' Georgie's plummeting approval ratings, alot of those conservative Republicans aren't going to be energized at all.

Get rid of Downer Dean! Get someone with a little forward thinking and balls and re-organize our Party!
