CallSheet: C.R.A.Z.Y.
Outfest, Los Angeles's Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, is in full Swing and operatorLA was lucky enough to attend one of the films last night.
C.R.A.Z.Y. is a French Canadian episodic coming-of-age story  about a young gay man living with four brothers and a strict, temperamental father in 1970s Montreal. The film cleaned up at the Quebec box office and is sweeping into English-Canadian theatres on a wave of critical praise and will be Canada's submission in the best foreign language category at the American Academy awards.
The film was screened outdoors at the beautiful Ford Amphitheatre. The evening's temperature was perfect and the film, although slightly too long, is an achievement for director Jean-Marc Vallee. Vallee's use of interesting camera work combined with stellar acting and a poignant script that moves from outrageous comedy to touching drama seamlessly, left the appreciative audience quite happy. operatorLA can't remember the last time he was at a screening where the entire audience gasped, cringed and laughed in such unison.
If you get the chance, run out and see this film.
Oh yeah, and C.R.A.Z.Y.' s star, Marc-Andre Grondin, is absolutely delicious.
