Call Sheet: The Underground
In an effort to retain his journalistic integrity (which he has so much of) operatorLA must admit that he personally knows alot of people who worked on Showtime's new series, The Underground. These people didn't coerce him to write this little post. You see, he kept hearing his friends talking about this new show they were working on, but operatorLA is poor and didn't have Showtime, so he kinda just figured he would never see it unless it was released on DVD.
Well, the other night as operatorLA was having some alone time with cable television he realized that somehow he was now receiving the whole Showtime package. Sometimes God is good. After catching up on WEEDS, he remembered The Underground. Now those of you who know operatorLA will attest that if he doesn't like something he will tell you, so believe him when he says that this show is funny.
The Underground, which is created and hosted by Damon Wayans, is a great take on the sketch comedy format and since it is on cable, they can be as nasty, raunchy and gross as they want to be. And they are. Most of the performers are incredibly versatile and the whole show feels extremely fresh. While not all the sketches are gems and some of the characters are too "sketchy," we had a good time watching.
