The Ring-A-Ding: Church Protests, SoulForce Arrests, Tutu Detests
Over here in LA LA land things are pretty progressive, even the churches. A liberal Episcopal church in Pasadena,CA that has been threatened with the loss of its tax-exempt status over an anti-war sermon delivered just days before the 2004 presidential election said Thursday it will fight an IRS order to turn over documents on the matter. The questioned sermon was titled "If Jesus Debated Senator Kerry and President Bush," delivered by a guest pastor. Though he did not endorse a candidate, he said Jesus would condemn the Iraq war and Bush's doctrine of pre-emptive war. We think Jesus would have done the same thing.
We can't get enough of these do-gooders. SoulForce is the new millennium's gay equivalent of the Freedom Riders. On Thursday, September 21, 2006, in Greensboro, NC, the birth-place of the Civil Rights sit-in movement, four students attempted to enlist in the US Army as proud, patriotic, willing and able-bodied Americans. They weren't accepted and then the protestors staged a sit in at which 9 people were arrested. Love them!!!!!!!
We love Nobel Peace Prize winners and generally, we love anyone named Tutu. An authorized biography on Nobel peace prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu, reveals the church leader was shocked by the Episcopal denominationÂs reaction to the appointment of gay bishop Gene Robinson in 2003. We were too, Tutu, we were too.
