411: Speaking Truth to Power...with Punchlines

I case you didn't watch C-Span's coverage of the White House Correspondents Association dinner, comedian Stephen Colbert ripped the President a new one gave a speech about Dubya that made the event more like a Friar's Club roast.Apparently Bush and his aides thought the humor went too far. Too far? Well boo frickin' hoo. Some of us (read: everyone except the thirty odd percent of the country who still approve of Bush) think the number of lies and botched policies we've suffered at the hands of this administration have gone too far.

Here are a few excerpts from Editor and Publisher:
He attacked those in the press who claim that the shake-up at the White House was merely re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. “This administration is soaring, not sinking,” he said. “If anything, they are re-arranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg.”

Colbert told Bush he could end the problem of protests by retired generals by refusing to let them retire. He compared Bush to Rocky Balboa in the “Rocky” movies, always getting punched in the face — “and Apollo Creed is everything else in the world.”

Observing that Bush sticks to his principles, he said, "When the president decides something on Monday, he still believes it on Wednesday -- no matter what happened Tuesday."

Stephen Colbert, you brought the truth -- and the funny. we salute you.

Yikes -- those big awkward silences instead of laughter? What a bunch of tools. Didn't they realize that Colbert is only a fake conservative before they hired him?
Whah, whah, whah... I raise my glass to Stephen Colbert's balls and honesty.
