Wiretap: Ms. Jackson if you're retro!

operatorLA loves that the 80's are coming back full force, especially on the music scene. He grew up in South Florida so any song that takes that old school Miami Bass and retro-synth on full force is "A-OK!" in his book. However, he seems a bit perplexed by a new offering from Janet Jackson's website. As a surprise gift she offers up to her fans a remake from the 80's. If you got to her site here and let the countdown expire, you will find a link to the song.

operatorLA loved Lookout Weekend by Debbie Deb and would spend hours in his bedroom or on the skating rink floor grooving to this song. He has wanted a good artist to cover this song for years and it looks like the time has come. However, he finds it a bit lacking. Ms. Jackson has done very little original re-working of this song and her vocals seem puny. Sounds like she let her producers work up the backing tracks and she layed down some vocals in an hour or two.

None the less, operatorLA can envision queens on dancefloors across America shaking their asses to this ditty- and he thinks that the re-mixes will rock.

If Janet had taken of few elements from the 80's version, like its driving rhythm line and re-tooled it a bit, it could almost be as good as this song, which takes bits from Soft Cell's Tainted Love and works them nicely into the song.
